Humbled

We’ve had to keep quiet about all of this (as much as possible, anyway) until the show went to air.

Our lives have been profoundly impacted by the compassion and generosity of Oprah Winfrey and her Harpo team along with Microsoft and XBox Australia. Let me just say, every person we have had the pleasure of meeting and dealing with on our way to the Opera House and beyond has shown us how beautiful humanity can be when it sets it’s heart on helping others.

I am encouraged and inspired to be a better man and to mimic this kind of generosity in my own life. If you only knew the path we have walked to this point…. One day I’ll explain it all.

To everyone who kept us in the dark(!) and gave us the surprise of our lives (massive understatement), we are so truly blessed to know you and look forward to seeing you again.

Dinner is on us!

  9. Dear Kristian,
I too am a born-again sovereign son of the most high God.
Over the last 48 hours & by the Lords grace, the most amazing series of dots have been connected before my very eyes.
The Lord has impressed apon me to share this information with you & your family forth-with & all that is asked is that you spend a short while researching it with your own prayerful consideration.
The “hows” of this series of events leaading-up to my emailing are too long to describe here, but what’s more important is that “you called, God answered”. Well, I very strongly believe that he hasn’t finished answering your call yet.

  10. I have heard your story and am so so grateful that you’ve shared through your blog. Reading and following has increased my faith so much. God is an awesome God! He hears when we call and is just waiting for us to have the faith to believe He can do anything that we need for Him to do. Your family is a blessing! Your journey although not easy, is proof that Greater is HE that is in us, then he that is in this world. Praying for you and your family. =)

  12. Dear Kristian,

I watched the Oprah show that featured Rachel and yourself. It was very touching and inspirational. Your kids are blessed to have both of you as parents.

Don’t give up the good fight. Have faith that God wants you to spread His words through your enduring this hardship. He has to tempered you like steel so that you can be ready for what He wants you to do in His name. Think about the story of Joseph, how he was humbled until he was ready to be raised by God to save not only his treacherous brothers but the whole of Eygpt.

Yes, there are a lot of goodness in this world. Sometimes, in our daily grind, we forget that a word of kindness will be treasured by a tormented soul. In your case, you have been showered with blessings and touched by the special love that only Oprah can spread around the world. Help comes from unexpected places when you place yourself in God’s hands.

Have faith, keep the courage and know that millions of people are sending you their love and prayers. Be the shining beacon of hope and know that in the end, all is about love… Take care!!

    Blessings!

  13. Thank you so much for sharing your story with the world! Sending you and your family love, hugs, and prayers! I hope to one day find a love as special as the one you and Rachel share! May God bless you all!

  14. That is so awesome. I’m sorry I missed it. I saw the last episode with Hugh, Olivia Newton-John, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban. I would have loved to have seen you and your family.

Was this filmed before or after your surgery.

  15. Have thought of your family so much since seeing you on Oprah. I am so happy to have found your blog. Wishing you the best from Seattle, Washington.

  16. Dear Kristian and Rachel – thank you for sharing your wonderful story. I believe your personal video has raised more awareness about cancer and the effects it has on families than all the paid advertising ever could. I will continue to read your blog – keep in mind there are lots of people out there thinking of you.
    cheers Suzette

  17. God has blessed you and yours he knows what you can take and will protect you as long as you rely on him. I have a sister who is in great pain and suffers from cancer but she has remained with us these past years but it is getting so painful now for her .God Bless you and yours for always. With love Virginia

  18. Dear Kristian and Rachel

Thank you so much for sharing your journey – you are a true reminder of what matters in life.

Rachel, you are amazing – I can’t believe you still manage to smile, be vibrant, a positive energy for your boys, even in such testing times.

I hope your family stays as beautiful as it is when you are healed. Kristian, you said “I called, God answered”. He actually answered a long time ago – when he gave you Rachel, Cody and Jakob to guide you through the journey he has planned for you.

  19. Hi Kristian,

A fairly good book that helped me is called Living Simply with Cancer by Ross Taylor. You can also gain strength from the fact that someone like Lance Armstrong defeated cancer and went on to win the tour de France 7 times.Cancer is just a word

  20. You, your family and your story are truly inspiring! Was sobbing during the Oprah episode…and have shared your video and story with many. Was happy to stumble across your blog…and will come back for updates.

So many people are praying for remission – and a long happy life with your wife and two beautiful children.

  23. Your love never fails,
    Never gives up,
    Never runs out on me.

    -Hazel (Philippines) =D

  24. Just finished reading Psalm 18 and prayed that it would be as true for you as it was for David!
Keep fighting the good fight! May your Spirit and spirits be lifted high today.
    Kirsty

  25. What an amazing gift for you and your family.
Time is so precious but this will surely help over the coming year.

  26. I have followed your story all the way and have prayed for you. God’s grace is truly upon your life. You can now begin to create some beautiful memories with your beautiful family.
    What an awesome God!

  27. I’m so happy that you’ve gotten a break, somewhat, from the day-to-day concerns & have room for some great times together. As someone who has had cancer (& still feels somewhat under the shadow) I know how rich every day should seem. Best luck to you. Sending love & positivity your way. ~~~ Lydia

  28. I recently watched your touching story on Oprah and I want to say that you are a remarkably strong family. About four years ago, the man that I loved was diagnosed with cancer. It is such a tough battle and a hard thing for people to imagine unless they have been personally affected. My heart goes out to you and your family!! Stay strong!

    ~Amy

  29. What a beautiful and well deserving family. I loved watching your story on Oprah and what a fabulous gift – I wish you all the best with the challenges ahead but enjoy every second you all spend together until you all grow old together 🙂
    take care

  30. I have been following your story since you made the video for your wife. I hadn’t checked your blog lately and just said to my husband “I have to check Kristian’s blog to see how he’s doing. I am a HUGE Oprah fan and couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw you on her show… I sobbed when I watched the video you made for your wife, I sobbed some more when I saw you on the show.
You’re an incredible man with an incredible family. I think of you often.

  31. hey!! im wondering HOW i can see the oprah episode with you and your family on it??? i have searched and searched on youtube and the episode you are in is showing the whole thing EXCEPT the part you are on!!! can you PLEASE post the section of the show you are on, i would love to see!! i’m soo happy for you all!
    blessings to you!!

  32. Alot of people would call this a coincidence, but I firmly believe that this is a miracle. A few weeks ago we had a snow day so I was snowed in at home with my mom and in an effort to entertain her we watched all the dvr’ed Oprah’s I had. We watched the episode with your story on it and both cried our eyes out. Yesterday for some reason “Marry Me” entered into my head and wouldn’t let go. I revisited the beautiful video you made and that led me to this blog. I read a few recent entries and then rewound back and read them all from the beginning. So many things you said helped me make sense of some feelings that my husband has expressed recently. He just got back from the Mayo Clinic and has been diagnosed with adrenalmylarneuropathy which is a rare disease that essentially deteriorates his leg muscles to complete disuse and in his case he has lesions on his brain which are currently inactive but could reactivate again. His struggle has been similar to yours and since this is an inheirited disease we are can only have male children, as female children would be carriers if not infected. All of this and I am 28 and my husband just turned 30 and we just celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary and were trying to start a family.
I’ve spilled more than I meant to, but in short I just wanted to thank you for helping me see a bit into what is going through my husbands head. I would like to think I am as strong and supportive as your wife, but I’m not sure some days. So again thank you and you’re continued recovery will stay at the top of my prayer list!

  33. I watched your story on Oprah & have been truely inspired. The video for your wife as well as the blogs have made me cry more times than I. Can count. The love you & your family have for one another & for God should be a lesson to the world. People take so much for granted & often don’t even know it until someone as amazing as your family comes along & removes the blinders from their eyes to show them what is really important in life. Without love, hope & faith, life is nothing. Everyone needs to keep in mind that life is so short & often fragile. We need to live each day to the fullest because none of us know what will happen tomorrow. Cancer affects so many lives on so many different levels & you are an inspiration to each person that has been touched by its horrors. I believe your love of family & your faith in God will lead you out of these darkest days & your story will touch millions more than it already has. God has lead you down this path for a reason & you’re changing the world a little at a time. There are so many people that are praying for your recovery that I’m sure you feel the spiritual love & strength each of us are projecting to you & your family during these incredibly difficult times. Keep up the positive thought & I’ll be praying each day that you recover quickly & completely. Love to you and your family.

  34. Hi Kris and Rachel

I live in South Africa, so we have only just seen the Oprah Sydney Show. I just wanted to say how moved I was by your story, and that I will keep you both in my prayers from now on. Kris, I watched your video and it was so inspiring. I am a Video Producer and I loved not only the sentiment but your concept. Thank you on so many fronts. You have touched so many people all over the world. Your light has definitively shone through all the cracks of this world, and that is a wonderful legacy, no matter what happens in the future.
    God bless and thank you.
    Take care
